As the calendar page turns to October the leaves begin to turn lovely shades of orange, brown, yellow and red, and most notably the uniform colors for most major sports teams turn pink. October is, of course, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative is designed to encourage people to talk to their doctor about screenings to increase early detection – which can be the key to successful treatment, and to raise funds for continued research towards a cure. This year Mizuno has partnered with Fleet Feet Sports to bring us Project Zero.
Project Zero's goal is to have the number of women diagnose with breast cancer drop to ZERO, and will feature apparel and a limited-edition colorway of the Mizuno Wave Rider 21 that will be exclusive to Fleet Feet Sports, and more importantly $5 of each apparel purchase and $10 of each footwear purchase goes directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is a Tier A charity based in New York. As of 2014, BCRF directs more than 91 cents of every dollar raised to breast cancer research and breast cancer awareness programs.
Of course, we all know that a great shoe can only be made better with an amazing sock and that is why Balega has their Grit & Grace collection. A very limited run of Balega Silver socks in colors specifically chosen to match and/or compliment the colors of Mizuno’s apparel and Wave Rider will be available, and $1 from each sock purchase will be donated to BCRF. What better way to not only make sure dress the part for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but to know that the purchases you made will be a benefit to so many others?
