Certified Mentor Expectations
In an effort to deliver an outstanding training program experience to our diverse and unique participants we uphold the following expectations of our volunteer mentors:
Consistency is one of the primary characteristics of a group mentor. As a certified mentor we ask that you commit to consistency in the following manner:
- Attend 85% of practices during the training program
- Attend 100% of practices during the certification program
- Commit to mentoring two training programs in the calendar year
- Attend a 1 session certification update every 6 months
- Notify Head Coach and Co-Mentor in advance of absences
Clarity is an important aspect for a participant in a training program. As a certified mentor we ask that you assist Fleet Feet Sports in displaying clear direction in the following manner:
- Identifying yourself as a mentor in interaction with participants
- Adhering to safety and visibility guidelines
- Adhering to specified routes, training paces, and distances
Safety is our highest priority for all participants and certified mentors in our training programs. As a mentor we ask that you assist us maintain a safe environment through the following procedures:
- Adhere to traffic laws and enforce these rules amongst participants
- Carry a cell phone at all practices
- Assist participants at street crossings
- Not use headphones or music sources while serving in a mentor role
- Uphold safety of the group as the highest priority and take sensible precautions as needed
- Not run with a dog or baby jogger while serving in a mentor role
